It has long surprised me that so many regard standards as nothing more than another piece of bureaucracy. In many new areas such as IOT, AI and security, I see standards as setting the backdrop for new players to emerge.
Over the years, de facto standards such as those in graphic can (e.g. OpenGLES), IOT (e.g. Thread) and security (e.g. TrustZone) have enabled their key developers to gain significant market presence and influence. It’s time we embraced new and evolving standards as a constant source of innovation and opportunity.
